Bio-Oil
Bio-Oil is an excellent product for hydrating the skin. The moisturizer can be used days after surgery but should not initially be placed on the incisions. The scar cream can be applied to the incision as soon as the incision appears intact and healthy.
NewGel+
Silicone has been scientifically shown to improve scar appearance. There are multiple options with various tapes and an ointment. Some people prefer the tapes and some people prefer the ointment. We suggest you see what works for you. This can be started once the incisions have completely healed.
BioCorneum
BioCorneum is an alternative product that also includes silicone. It has the added benefit of including an SPF 30 to help protect the scar from any additional sun related damage. It comes in a 50g or a 20g supply.
Arnica montana and Bellis perennis
Arnica montana and Bellis perennis can both be taken during the immediate recovery after surgery. These supplements have been shown to help with bruising and swelling.
Juven
Juven is a therapeutic nutrition drink mix for wound healing support. This provides multiple vitamins and amino acids that are crucial for wound healing. This is not a protein supplement though so protein still needs to be increased during the healing process. Juven comes in multiple flavors and an unflavored version that some people will put in their coffee.
Garments
You will leave the hospital with garments appropriate for your surgery. Some patients prefer to try alternative garments. Additionally foam is often placed and if desired can be replaced.
Pillows
Many patients feel better elevating their chest for the first few weeks following surgery. Additionally, a mastectomy pillow is helpful for many of our patients.
